Puako Petroglyph Preserve – Hawai’i

I had the opportunity to hike the trail to the Puako Petroglyph Preserve at the Mauna Lani Resort. The trail head is located inside the resort near the Holoholo Kai Beach Access.

Puako Petroglyph Preserve Trail head sign. Trail is a short 1.4 mile (round trip) hike, on an easily traveled path. Make sure to take water on your trip, and I recommend traveling in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat of the day, as well as to get the best light for viewing the many petroglyphs. Petroglyphs are know as ki’i pohaku in Hawai’i. Translated as stone/rock pictures.
